St. Mary Immaculate Band program is done during the school day. The students also entertain at many school functions. Many of our band students can be heard accompanying the school choir during Mass on Fridays.

SMIP school is very proud to offer our band program to all of our fourth through eighth grade students. We currently have 33 beginning band members, 15 intermediate band members, and 28 senior band members. Band members may participate in several activities and events including the Winter Band Concert, Spring Band Concert, the Plainfield Homecoming Parade and other special performances. Our Band Director is Mrs. Kristen Hughes.

Music in Our Schools Month

During the month of March, SMIP School participated in Music In Our Schools Month or MIOSM. Throughout the month, the Band Boosters coordinated many fun activities to promote and raise awareness of the importance of music education. Students participated in and enjoyed MISOM events including weekly activities, raffles, music decorations throughout the school, daily quotes read by Mr. Garvey, a pasta sale fundraiser and special locker decorations for band members. As the finale, students had a special guest performer in music class. Professional musician and SMI Parent Michael Almaguer sang songs to the children in both English and Spanish, and introduced them to instruments such as the classical guitar, bongos and tambourine.
